How long does a spray tan last? 

 

You’ve sprayed your client, they’ve followed all the preparation tips beforehand (more about that later) and they’re already glowing inside and out. But how long does a spray tan last?

 

So, the straight answer to this is generally between 5-7 days after they’ve rinsed off following the recommended development time. But can you make a spray tan last longer? Read on and find out…

 

How does spray tan work?

 

How long does a spray tan last- it depends on 3 key things: the quality of solution used, correct preparation of the skin beforehand, and good maintenance after. Professional spray tans involve a professional grade solution (like our Eden Tanning Professional Solutions) applied in a fine mist, using a spray gun (our ultra portable TS20 and  are perfect for the job). The solution should have a guide colour to show you the bits you’ve covered and also to give your customers an immediate confidence boost in their appearance. The DHA in the solution then reacts with the amino acids in the skin, producing a beautiful bronzed effect. Usually, it takes 8 hours (or overnight) for the colour to develop to its darkest shade, and then the guide colour should be rinsed off to reveal the final result. With careful maintenance, your clients can expect their tan to last for 5-7 days with a light-medium solution, or up to 10 days with a darker shade. The colour will fade gradually as the skin cells are slowly shed, which is a natural process that continually occurs.

1. Exfoliate
2. Hair removal (if they wish)
3. Moisturise knees, elbows and dry patches
4. Wear loose clothing to the appointment

How should my client care for their tan?

 

The last step to a beautiful, long lasting tan is the maintenance that your clients put into it after application. By remembering these rules, your customers can achieve a tropical glow that fades evenly and lasts for a week or longer:

 

1. Cooler showers and avoid hot tubs and chlorinated pools
2. Pat dry instead of rubbing harshly with towels
3. Exfoliate gently every day
4. Moisturise daily with a gel based lotion
